Indoor portable fireplaces are hot: Here are some of our favorite models

Share

No chimney? No problem.

Indoor bioethanol fireplaces are in vogue, exuding the primal warmth of a roaring fire even within chimney-deprived houses and apartments.

Models can be installed into recessed cavities, over existing walled-off fireplaces or hung on walls. Portable versions can be placed on tables and floors or used outdoors.

Bioethanol fireplaces are low-maintenance additions to homes because they produce no smoke, soot or ash — only steam, carbon dioxide and some heat.

That said, the fireplaces do consume oxygen. So always keep a window or door cracked when using one. And it probably goes without saying, but we will say it anyway: Always follow all safety instructions included with these products.

Here are three hot models that caught our eye:

Ghost | EcoSmart Fire

The Ghost is made of brushed stainless steel and toughened glass. A display compartment can be wryly stacked with wood logs, which are not included. $2,652. ecosmartfire.com
