Greta Grossman desk and dresser reissued
It’s a one-woman design revival: The midcentury furniture and lighting of Greta Magnusson Grossman continue their comeback long after her death. As consumers snap up her long-legged Grasshopper lamps and coiled Cobra desk lights, more designs -- including a desk that would make practically anyone want to sit down and work -- are being reissued.
Writer David A. Keeps, who first reported for us on the reasons behind the posthumous Grossman appreciation, including a just-opened retrospective at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, has the update: Danish manufacturer Gubi has expanded its Grossman collection to include the 62 Series desk and dresser, 1952 designs that got their name because they looked 10 years ahead of their time.
Classic design does not come cheap: The prices listed on the Gubi site are 4,599 Euro (about $5,900) for the desk and 4,999 Euro (about $6,400) for the dresser. If that seems steep, just think: Vintage Grossman costs even more. The reissued Grasshopper lamp newly manufactured by Gubi and sold at Design Within Reach for $875 commands five-figure prices on the vintage auction market.
