Go modern: The top 10 fire pits for summer entertaining

Dads are not just about beer, power tools and electronics. They like to go outside too. And not just to barbecue. With Father’s Day fast approaching, we decided to compile a list of some of our favorite modern fire pits for dads who enjoy being outdoors not just on Father’s Day but every day:

Ixtapa square fire table

Loll steel fire ring

The unfinished steel fire ring by Loll is 3 feet wide and made with 1/8-inch-thick steel. Two horizontal cutouts help in moving the fire ring to different locations. A plastic top, shown above, comes in 10 colors and allows the fire ring to double as a cocktail table when not in use. Fire ring with top, $811; top, $148.50.

The wok fire pit

Made of reinforced concrete in a natural cement finish, this the wok fire pit can be used with wood or plumbed to use with gas. All fire pits come pre-drilled with a 1.25-inch hole in the bottom center for gas plumbing unless you request otherwise. Starts at $425. A stainless steel fire ring is available for $146. Plodes geometric fire pit

John Paul Plauché’s handcrafted geometric fire pit is available in two sizes and two metals – A36 low-carbon steel or Cor-Ten steel – and can be used with wood or charcoal. A cedar top, shown above, or grate can turn the fire pit into a table or grill. $1,195 to $2,145 at Design Within Reach.

Astrofire from Modfire

This midcentury-style fireplace from Modfire can also be filled with decorative rocks or fire glass, if desired. Fuel options include natural gas, propane or wood. Hemi concrete fire pit

The nautical Loop from Brown Jordan is wrapped in 2-inch-thick, marine-grade nautical rope and features optional accessories such as a protective glass screen and matching stools or side tables. Includes stainless steel burners and decorative lava rock. $4,795.

Real Flame Mezzo round fire pit table
