Cruz Bustamante

Lt. Gov. Bustamante, the highest-ranking Latino in state government, has kept a low profile since the 2003 recall. Defying many in his own party, Bustamante jumped into the turbulent recall and lost to Schwarzenegger by about 1.3 million votes. He has now taken up health care as a cause in his insurance commissioner race. Calling himself obese, he has focused his campaign almost entirely on losing weight and getting others to do the same.
