Special to The Times

The latest trend in tabletop trimmings invokes the wisdom of Willy Wonka: Chocolate brown makes everything look delicious. Though earthy earthenware has been a staple at sushi bars since the 1980s, the ceramics dished out now are as soft as powdered cocoa and as shiny as hot fudge. These serving pieces, from contemporary designers and old California potteries such as Bauer and Heath Ceramics, shape up in classic forms that sweeten any dining room décor.

FOR THE RECORD:
Bauer pottery —An article about pottery in the Oct. 7 Home section said Bauer pottery was available at Room With a View in Santa Monica. The pottery is not available there.
