2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR

Special to the Los Angeles Times

With 600hp, the Dodge Viper SRT10 is an honest-to-goodness muscle car. The ACR (auto club racer) version doesn’t add power, but does subtract 40 pounds and sports expensive lightweight wheels, some aerodynamic add-ons, a new (adjustable) suspension and upgraded brakes, along with a bespoke paint job.

The most noticeable aero fixture is the giant, carbon fiber, fully adjustable rear wing, but the front splitter will help reduce drag while creating extra downforce. A ‘Hard Core’ package removes a further 40 pounds (sound deadening, trunk carpet and stereo ditched). This makes the car fully ready for the track.

HOW MUCH?”Under $100,000,” says Dodge. So $99,999, probably.

OUR TAKEAs if 600hp in a fiberglass body didn’t provide an adequately impressive power-to-weight ratio, losing a potential 80 pounds more should do the trick. Seeing one on the street might provoke a response where people will hold their index fingers about half an inch from their thumbs, but to really tame this beast on the track takes some serious cojones.
