Japanese internment in World War II
Few buildings remain at the Tule Lake Segregation Camp in Newell, Calif. It was one of the camps used to hold Japanese Americans in World War II.
After Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japan in 1941, the U.S. imprisoned 120,000 Japanese Americans, two-thirds of whom were U.S. citizens. They were held in 10 relocation camps across the West until the war ended in 1945.
