LOS ANGELES--Southern California is widely recognized for its rich history of architectural and garden styles and trend-setting design. On Thursday, April 17, the Los Angeles Times will introduce Home, a new weekly section that captures the full and diverse experience of home life in Southern California.

“We live in a region where trends in lifestyle, architecture, interior design and landscaping are born,” said Barbara King, editor, Home. “The places we call home are at the center of our lives, and the Home section will reflect the broad, wondrous scope of how we live in them.”

King, who joined The Times in March, is a veteran journalist with expertise in home coverage. Most recently she served as senior articles editor for Architectural Digest. She also served as senior editor and writer for Town & Country and was a freelance writer for Harper’s Bazaar and Good Housekeeping.

Last October, the Los Angeles Times began a two-year program to revitalize its Features sections, beginning with the revamped daily, Weekend and Sunday Calendar sections, as well as the Food and Health sections. Home, launching on April 17, is the first of three new sections planned for 2003. In the fall, new sections on the outdoors and on fashion and beauty will be introduced.

The new Features report is designed to reinvent The Times coverage of entertainment, lifestyle and culture to better reflect life in Southern California in a voice that’s expressly for the West Coast. When the Features redesign is completed, Times readers will receive both Calendar and a weekly section every weekday.

The Los Angeles Times, a Tribune Publishing company, is the largest metropolitan daily newspaper in the country and the winner of 30 Pulitzer Prizes, including three this year in national reporting, feature writing and feature photography. The Times publishes four daily regional editions covering the Los Angeles metropolitan area, Orange and Ventura counties and the San Fernando Valley, as well as a National edition.
