Hurricane Norbert intensified Wednesday off Baja California with sustained winds of about 75 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for southern parts of the Baja Peninsula, and Norbert’s center is expected to pass west of the peninsula Thursday afternoon and into Friday.

Even though the storm is not expected to make landfall in Baja, tropical-storm-force winds could lead to power outages in southern parts of the peninsula.

Heavy rains, flash flooding and mudslides are possible in the area, while 3 to 5 inches of rain could fall in southwestern Mexico over the next couple of days, the National Weather Service said.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Dolly made landfall on Mexico’s Gulf Coast on Tuesday night, causing little damage.
