Thomas Houseago’s giant masks loom over Rockefeller Center

The British-born, L.A.-based artist is known for his craggy, monumental sculptures of figures and heads that often look as if they are on the verge of attacking. This year he was commissioned by New York’s Public Art Fund to create one of the annual site-specific pieces that resides in Rockefeller Center.

The artist

The artist is well known throughout the art world for his large, jagged pieces. He is seen here at his Los Angeles studio in November 2010.
