Internships at latimes.com

Share
The Los Angeles Times website seeks academic interns interested in a rigorous new media experience in several key areas:

1. Web production and editing:
Produce web pages, curate and promote our journalism, add photos and other related items to our content and recombine and package the Times' high quality work in innovative ways. Work in news, features or other areas. Experience with Adobe Photoshop, HTML language and producing web pages is required. See all of latimes.com.

2. Data and programming journalism:
Write scripts, manage servers or adapt software with us in ways that support our existing data journalism efforts. Create organized presentations of information for our users and readers. We're interested in interns familiar with any platforms and languages and a facility to learn new ones. We need folks to work on our proprietary platforms, ongoing Django projects, map presentations and emerging mobile platforms and apps. See latimes.com/data.

3. Social media and community:
Help us review and aggregate reader comments, promote the Times on social media platforms, enact our newest initiatives, interact with our readers and observe trends in news and popular culture. Experience is required in writing headlines and descriptions in new formats with high journalistic standards quickly and accurately. See our Twitter and Facebook presence.

The Times may be interested in people who would want to work in more than one of these categories. All candidates need to have had some experience in journalism as well as working with blog platforms, social media platforms, photos and web software. A basic understanding of HTML is essential.

Applicants are encouraged to get academic credit or use the experience in coursework. Successful applicants will be paid. Internship length and weekly hours will vary by specific appointment; the minimum would be two days a week for an academic quarter or semester. There is also a summer program. Candidates must be available some evenings and weekends.

Please send a letter and resume to onlinejobs@latimes.com. Because attachments may be stripped, we suggest applicants copy the basic resume into plain text of e-mail. Large files or photos are likely to be rejected, so please keep attachments well under 300K or refer us to your website. A simple Word document or PDF is acceptable. Please understand that we may not be able to reply to all applications.
