Degeneres takes a 1958 BevHills home
Cyberspace is a-twitter with the news that Ryan Seacrest is expected to close escrow this week on Ellen Degeneres’ Beverly Hills compound, but there’s been nary a peep about where she and spouse Portia de Rossi have decamped.
Look no further than the Hal Levitt-designed midcentury in Beverly Hills that changed hands in April, according to area real estate agents familiar with that deal.
The 8,500-square-foot house, built in 1958, features walls of glass, soaring ceilings, multiple fireplaces, a library, a black-and-stainless-steel kitchen, a sunken living room, four bedrooms and six bathrooms. The family room opens to the swimming pool on the less-than-1-acre property, which has a circular driveway.
It is quite a downsize from Degeneres’ 3-acre compound, which includes four structures and was formed starting in 2007 through three property purchases on the same street. The 15,000 square feet of interior space include a 9,200-square-foot main house, a secondary house and two guesthouses. The asking price on the compound was $49 million.
The comedian, 54, has hosted the daytime show that bears her name since 2003 and has won multiple Emmys.
Seacrest, 37, has hosted “American Idol” since 2002.
Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency, Beverly Hills, is the listing agent on the Beverly Hills compound and Seacrest’s Hollywood Hills West area Mediterranean villa, which was most recently priced at $11.985 million.
Ben Bacal of Sotheby’s marketed the Hal Levitt-designed house outside the Multiple Listing Service.
