Boyle Hotel
Mariachi Beto Lopez, 55, walks toward the Boyle Hotel with a guitarrón on his back. Though Lopez doesn’t live there, the hotel, known for its long history of housing mariachis, has been restored and is again open to residents, including mariachis. The restored cupola and refurbished red bricks help the hotel maintain its title as the “jewel” of Boyle Heights. (Genaro Molina / Los Angeles Times)
