Cheers from bungalow owner who realized his dream in Silver Lake

Share

AS A proud owner of one of the beautiful Maltman bungalows in Silver Lake, I wanted to thank you for featuring them in your article Little by Little on June 5, about an L.A. ordinance that allows for multiple small homes to be built on certain lots].

FOR THE RECORD:
Maltman bungalow: The main headline on the Letters column in Thursday’s Home section called the letter writer’s home a condo. It is a small house. —

I’m 29 years old and grew up in the Silver Lake/Echo Park/Los Feliz area.

Being able to finally afford a little house I can be proud of in a community I truly love is a dream come true. It certainly has been the best option for someone who has wanted nothing more than to have their own piece of heaven in a city they love.

I hope your article inspires more developers to invest in this type of housing so that others may have a chance to own affordable, attractive property.

Cat run would please the neighbors, birds

THE CAT exercise run described in “Psst, Let’s Tunnel Out of Here” [June 5] is a wonderful idea. In fact, it should be mandatory to keep cats out of neighbors’ yards.

What a nice (and useful) article! I’ve passed it on to a friend who is sending it to birders, professional and amateur, all over the country. Domestic and feral cats have had a big, negative impact on America’s songbirds. You’ve presented an easy and inexpensive win-win solution.

In a hammock, swing yourself to sleep

RE “Hammock Is Still on the Upswing” [May 22]: My favorite piece of furniture! I sleep in it almost every night and I hang laundry on it during the day. It’s comfortable and safe; many mornings I waken to find myself suspended right at the edge, held in by the hammock. Mine is a rope hammock, but I may check out something for winter.
