In the late 1990s, Julia "Butterfly" Hill protested logging by living for more than two years in an old-growth redwood tree nicknamed Luna on land owned by the Pacific Lumber Co. Another timber firm has since bought Pacific Lumber, renamed it Humboldt Redwood Co. and set out on a path away from aggressive logging practices.
