As the clock ticked on, the sun continued to shine and the mercury climbed toward record temperatures across Los Angeles County on Monday afternoon. By 2 p.m. several cities were close to marking heat records, an official from the National Weather Service said. It was 91 degrees downtown. The record is 98 for the date, but the average for this time of year is 74 degrees. It was 103 in Beverly Hills. READ STORY
