Fire engulfs commercial building in Hollywood
More than 90 firefighters responded Sunday morning to a fully engulfed one-story commercial building in Hollywood, authorities said.
The blaze occurred about 9 a.m. in 1000 block of Orange Drive just east of La Brea Avenue and produced a plume of heavy black smoke that could be seen for miles.
Because of the intense fire inside the building, firefighters went into “defensive mode” — leaving the structure to fight the blaze from the outside, said Katherine Main, a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Part of the building’s roof collapsed but no one was injured, Main said. The building may have been a chrome-plating facility, she said.
Firefighters have responded from both the city and county fire departments, Main said.
