O.C. man convicted of fatally stabbing two men in parking lot
An Orange County man was convicted Thursday of fatally stabbing two men during a fight in a Lake Forest parking lot, prosecutors said.
Justin Alvin Masao Tombleson, 30, was found guilty by a jury of two felony counts of voluntary manslaughter, according to a statement from the Orange County district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors said the maximum sentence he faces has been extended to a possible 34 years because of a previous conviction. He pleaded guilty in November 2005 to felony counts related to battery and assault with a deadly weapon.
In the early morning of June 11, 2011, prosecutors said, Tombleson got into a fight with a group of men in the parking lot of a Mexican restaurant in Lake Forest, arriving after one of the men spat on his girlfriend.
According to prosecutors, Tombleson’s friends joined the fight, and he pulled a knife from his pocket. He stabbed one of the men, Elvis Kechechian, 26, once in the abdomen, perforating his aorta, they said. Another man, Hossein Saidian, 32, was stabbed in the chest and arm.
Prosecutors said Kechechian and Saidian were taken to a hospital, and Kechechian died shortly after he arrived. Saidian remained in critical condition until dying six days after the fight.
Prosecutors said Tombleson fled with his friends, but Sheriff’s Department investigators found a knife near the scene and linked it to Tombleson through DNA evidence. The DNA of both men stabbed was also identified on the knife.
