The walk raised more than $415,000 for projects supported by the Aga Khan Foundation USA, which was about par for the course for the event. It was one of eight walks held in major cities across the nation.

The event drew celebrities and local politicians, including Santa Monica Mayor Pam O’Connor, California state Sen. Ted Lieu and state Assemblyman Richard Bloom.

“All of us grew up wanting to change the world," U.S. Rep. Karen Bass said in a statement on the L.A. charity event, "and that’s what the Aga Khan Foundation does.

“I have visited most of the African countries where AKF works and I know firsthand what it means to provide resources and support.”

Since 1995, the foundation’s Partnerships in Action activities have attracted more than 440,000 participants and raised more than $63 million, organizers said.
