Teacher charged with sexually abusing relative, may be more victims
Huntington Beach police believe that a teacher charged with sexually assaulting a teenage female relative may have other victims after being an educator in L.A. County schools for 27 years.
Advanced Placement English teacher Jeffrey Scott Jones, 53, of Huntington Beach has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one felony count of continuous sexual abuse. Jones could face up to life in prison if convicted of all charges. He remains in the county jail in lieu of $1-million bail, Orange County prosecutors said.
Jones is accused of sexually assaulting his 13-year-old female relative by touching her chest and vagina over her clothing and under her clothing on different occasions. Prosecutors have also charged him with raping the girl on May 4 and May 9.
The allegations were reported in May to Huntington Beach police, who arrested Jones at his home June 27 after an investigation.
At the time of the alleged crimes, Jones was teaching AP English at Libra Academy in Huntington Park.
Investigators say that his previous teaching assignments include Bell High School in Bell and Gahr High School in Cerritos, and that there may be more victims.
