More than a dozen teachers have been recognized for their work at Westside schools and community organizations by the Venice Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber’s fourth annual WAVE awards recognize innovation and outstanding teaching efforts inside and outside the classroom.

The awards, sponsored by Google, were awarded last week to teachers at the following schools and organizations:

Joelle Dumas, chair of the chamber’s education committee, said that people often think about technology when discussing classroom innovation.

“We wanted to bring the focus back to our teachers as innovators in their daily ability to connect with each and every student, nurture curiosity, foster inspiration and create life-long learners,” she said.
