San Diego County brush fire burns 2,500 acres, forces evacuations
A brush fire near Julian in northeast San Diego County has burned more than 2,500 acres and forced the evacuation of several campgrounds, Cal-Fire said Sunday.
Evacuations were ordered at the Horse Haven, El Prado, Laguna and Al Bahr Shrine campgrounds, along with Foster Lodge. The Red Cross has established a center for evacuees at McQueen Middle School in Alpine.
Dubbed the Chariot fire because it was first spotted Saturday near Chariot Canyon, the blaze is considered 20% contained and is being fought by more than 800 firefighters and by helicopters and tankers.
Portions of Sunrise Highway are closed. No injuries or structural damage have been reported, Cal-Fire said.
