Ice cream innovator
Irvine Robbins founded the Baskin-Robbins ice cream chain with his brother-in-law Burton Baskin in the late 1940s. By the time Robbins retired in 1978, the company was selling some 20 million gallons of ice cream a year in more than 2,000 stores around the world. (Baskin-Robbins)
