North Hollywood man wanted for murder is arrested by border patrol agents
A North Hollywood man who attempted to cross the U.S.-Mexico border late Wednesday night was taken into custody after border patrol officers discovered he was wanted on suspicion of murder.
Oscar E. Aguilera walked up to the Otay Mesa border crossing in San Diego about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday and presented his California driver’s license to border patrol officers. To confirm his identity, officers ran his fingerprints in a database and learned that Aguilera had an outstanding no bail felony warrant for homicide that had been issued by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Aguilera was turned over to LAPD detectives. Details of the case were not immediately available, a police spokesman said.
“Immediate access to our law enforcement database is crucial,” said Bruce Ward, assistant port director of the Otay Mesa Passenger Port of Entry. “We maintain the security of our communities by using these databases to catch fugitives with active warrants, no matter where those warrants may be issued from.”
Last year, the San Diego Field Office apprehended 2,046 fugitives with active warrants for their arrest.
