Photos: Shooting at Kabul children’s hospital
Dr. Jerry Umanos, John Gabel and his father, Gary Gabel, were killed at CURE International’s hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan when a security guard opened fire at the hospital on April 24, 2014. Umanos was a pediatrician who worked at Lawndale Christian Health Center on Chicago’s West Side. John Gabel, of Palatine, Ill., was a visiting lecturer in the information technology department at Kabul University, had been doing ministry work and was with an organization running a health clinic. Gary Gabel and his wife were visiting their son.
