How the Iowa caucuses work
On Thursday night all eyes will be on Iowa, where, starting at 7 p.m., voters will gather in local schools, public buildings and homes to help choose their party's presidential nominee. Iowa is traditionally the first state to hold a primary or caucus in a presidential election year. But while primaries use a straightforward statewide vote to determine delegate allotment, caucuses can require consensus-building and negotiation at the most local level.
