Three people were dead and at least three others were in critical condition after a gunman opened fire at a government meeting in Pennsylvania’s Monroe County on Monday night, local media reported.
Pocono Record reporter Chris Reber, who was at the meeting of the Ross Township supervisors, said smoke and plaster flew as gunshots tore holes in the walls. A local official bear-hugged the shooter and shot him with his own gun, Reber said. The gunshots sounded “like a string of firecrackers,” Reber wrote in a first-person account for the newspaper.
The Allentown Morning Call reported that a suspect was in custody at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg.
