‘Terminator’ spoof gets high school principal suspended

Fire engulfs the screen. Classrooms are empty. A playground burns.

And the “Naumannator” sports a leather jacket and dark sunglasses. When asked about the empty classrooms, he replies, the students “have been naumannated.”

Everett High School Principal Erick Naumann and a teacher have been suspended for two days without pay after the “Terminator 2” spoof video was shown to students last week, the office of the superintendent for Everett Public Schools in Massachusetts confirmed to the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday.

Naumann, who became principal this month after serving as acting principal in the fall, made the video with the teacher to introduce himself to students and could have been fired, according to the Associated Press. The suspended teacher was identified in local news reports as Roy Barrows, a media teacher at the school.

In the spoof video, Naumann dresses like Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character from “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.”

“He’s a strong leader. He made the wrong decision on the video … but I certainly don’t think he should be terminated,” Supt. Frederick F. Foresteire said, the Associated Press reported.

In the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting, where 20 first-graders and six faculty members died, the video has raised some concerns among parents. Others, including students and parents, have expressed support for Naumann, who has been with the district for 15 years.

“I don’t think he was trying to do anything bad,” junior Sarah Noelsaint said Monday night at a school committee meeting, according to the Boston Globe. “He was just trying to find a way to connect with the students.”

Naumann has apologized.
