Michigan teen, boyfriend charged in plot to kill family

A 15-year-old Michigan girl slashed her little brother’s throat and planned to kill her entire family at the direction of her 23-year-old boyfriend in the hopes that the couple could run off together, prosecutors allege.

Roksana Sikorski appeared in Wayne County district court Wednesday after prosecutors charged her with conspiracy to commit murder, assault with intent to murder and felonious assault for her role in a brutal stabbing that left her 12-year-old brother hospitalized last week, according to a news release from the Wayne County prosecutor’s office.

Sikorski, who has been charged as an adult, and her boyfriend Michael Rivera were both arrested within hours of the vicious attack, police said.

“Bluntly, it is rare for this office to charge a 15-year-old as an adult. However, the alleged facts in this case strongly warrant this decision,” Wayne County prosecutor Kym L. Worthy said in a statement. “The alleged actions of this defendant and her co-defendant, to conspire to kill her entire family, are truly haunting.”

Prosecutors say Sikorski entered her family’s Plymouth Township home with a knife on Oct. 17 while Rivera waited outside, sending Sikorski instructions on how to attack and maim her family via text message.

Lt. Bob Antal, head of the Plymouth Township Police Department’s detective bureau, told the Los Angeles Times that Sikorski stabbed her younger brother in the throat, and attempted to slash her younger sister before the boy’s screams woke her parents.

The suspects fled the home and split up, but Plymouth police officers arrested Sikorski and Rivera within hours of the attacks.

Antal told The Times that Sikorski’s parents disapproved of her relationship with Rivera because he was eight years older than the girl, and the parents had been pursuing sexual assault charges against Rivera since August.

The suspect’s brother has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, according to Antal. Her parents and 11-year-old sister were not injured in the attacks, Antal said.

Police also recovered a knife at the scene, and believe that was the weapon Sikorski used to attack her brother, according to Antal.

Sikorski had run away from home with Rivera several times in recent months, according to Antal, but police were unable to obtain a warrant for Rivera’s arrest on the sex crimes allegations until recently.

Rivera had been charged with criminal sexual conduct and accosting a minor, according to Wayne County’s Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Maria Miller, but those charges are expected to be dismissed at his next court appearance, pending further investigation. She did not elaborate.

Rivera and Sikorski are both being held in lieu of $100,000 bond, and are scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 31. Rivera is currently being represented by a public defender, Miller said.

Calls to Sikorski’s attorney, Leslie Posner, and the Plymouth Township Police Department seeking comment were not immediately returned.
