Bush’s oily mess

Re “$4-a-gallon gas? It’s news to Bush,” Feb. 29

I have some more news for President Bush. During his reign, the national debt has skyrocketed to $9 trillion, the trade deficit is $7.12 billion, he set the federal budget deficit record, hundreds of thousands of innocent people have been crippled or killed in Iraq and, by the way, Osama bin Laden is still free.

It’s clear the Bush doesn’t even read a newspaper. Just the kind of uninformed, regular guy Republicans are so fond of voting for. Someone should tell Sen. John McCain to cancel his newspaper subscriptions if he expects his party to stand behind him.

Had Congress approved Bush’s plan to drill for oil in Alaska, we would not have to worry about $4-a-gallon gasoline prices. There is plenty of oil here in the U.S., in Alaska and offshore. The climate-change argument has proved to be another canard, as we know that climatic conditions fluctuate throughout the ages with or without a human presence. The liberal crowd does not want any more oil drilling in this country, period. Heaven forbid celebrities should have to look out and see a drilling platform from their Malibu perches.

Two Texas oilmen in charge, energy policy written by a secret cabal led by Vice President Dick Cheney, oil company profits at astronomical highs as oil tops $100 a barrel, and gas at $4 a gallon. Bush is surprised. Hmm.
