Brunch will celebrate Patriots Day Parade honorees

The Laguna Beach Patriots Day Parade Assn. will celebrate honorees for the 50th annual event at a brunch next month at Tivoli Terrace on the Festival of Arts property.

The brunch will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Feb. 7 and costs $30 per person.

This year’s parade honorees include Grand Marshal Kelly Boyd, a Laguna Beach City Council member; Honored Patriot Carlos McAfee, a retired Marine lieutenant colonel; Citizen of the Year Stu Saffer, editor of Stu News Laguna; Junior Citizens of the Year Elle Mahdavi and Alexander Rounaghi, Laguna Beach High School seniors; Artist of the Year Dion Wright, a Sawdust Art Festival exhibitor; and Athletes of the Year Nick Hernandez Jr. and Sam Stinnett, who are skimboarders.

The parade, which recognizes people who have served the community and country in times of war and disaster, begins at 11 a.m. March 5 near Laguna Beach High on Park Avenue and traverses downtown streets before ending in front of City Hall on Forest Avenue. A variety of groups participate in the parade, from members of organizations decorating floats to school bands performing for the crowd.
