Own a historic home? Then you might want to consider this workshop
The public is invited to a workshop involving Laguna Beach’s Heritage Committee next Thursday to discuss a draft revision to the city’s historic preservation ordinance.
Laguna has been working for three years on the revision, which includes an update to a 35-year-old inventory of homes deemed significant for their time-period architecture or association with historical events.
Several workshops have been held to discuss various elements of the ordinance. Residents have asked for a codified process that would allow them to request that their houses be removed from the inventory, noting that being on the list can limit what a homeowner can do with a property.

Under the proposed draft, real estate agents must disclose a property’s historical rating to potential buyers before any transfer of title. Speakers at previous public meetings have said they had no clue that their homes had historic status until they applied for permits with the city for alterations like room additions.
The workshop begins at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 505 Forest Ave. The Planning Commission and City Council will eventually review the ordinance.
