Around Town: Senior Needle Guild makes gifts for local groups

Laguna Beach Seniors’ Needle Arts Guild recently held its annual holiday gift wrapping party. This group of women spend each Friday afternoon together throughout the year, knitting and crocheting scarves, hats, shawls, children’s sweaters, dresses and lap blankets.

The group donates the handmade items to local groups and special causes, such as Glennwood House, Human Options, Friendship Shelter, Hoag Hospital Newborn Nursery, and veterans or people within the community who have terminal illnesses or are in special need for some extra warmth.

If you’d like to join the group, call The Susi Q Center at (949) 497-2441. All yarn for the projects is donated and no experience is necessary.

“Not only do we want to help children in our local community, but we want to thank the firefighters for their hard work,” said Principal Jenny Salberg. “There are many families out there who may not be able to afford purchasing these gifts for one reason or another. We are happy to be able to contribute to their successful Spark of Love Toy Drive for the seventh year.”

Leadership students will collect items until Dec. 10. For more information, visit lprettyman@lbusd.org.
