LAPD officer gets year in jail for lewd conduct near Bolsa Chica wetlands

A Los Angeles Police Department officer was sentenced Friday to one year in jail for attempting a lewd act with a 12-year-old girl and for exposing himself to five women near the Bolsa Chica wetlands in Huntington Beach, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.

On Dec. 1, an Orange County Superior Court jury found Ryan Eric Galliher, 35, of Huntington Beach guilty of attempting a lewd act on a child under 14 years old, engaging in a lewd act, contacting a minor with intent to commit a lewd act and six counts of indecent exposure.

Galliher was also sentenced to mandatory lifetime registration as a sex offender and five years of probation, authorities said.

He exposed himself to girls and women ranging in age from 12 to 80 between Feb. 27 and Oct. 20, 2014.

At the time of the incidents, Galliher was an LAPD officer. He was put on administrative leave in November 2014 after being charged.

The incidents occurred while Galliher was off duty near the Bolsa Chica wetlands entrance near Bolsa Chica Street and Los Patos Avenue.

He was arrested by Huntington Beach police on Oct. 23, 2014, after detectives said they saw him involved in a lewd act.
