Huntington Beach police cited five adults on suspicion of buying alcohol for minors Saturday as part of a statewide sting.

Huntington Beach and about 80 other police agencies partnered with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to carry out the undercover operation over the weekend.

As part of the sting, minors under the supervision of police approached adults outside stores, indicated they’re underage and asked the adult to buy alcohol for them, according to the ABC.

In Huntington Beach, underage decoys worked with officers throughout the city where they asked 23 adults for help getting alcohol, police said.

Most adults declined, but five agreed, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Furnishing alcohol to a minor is a misdemeanor that carries a minimum penalty of a $1,000 fine and 24 hours of community service, according to authorities.

Across the state about 340 adults were cited during the sting, according to police.
