Biz News: Fire damages H.B. Italian restaurant

Share

A minor kitchen fire damaged the Italian eatery Buon Gusto in Huntington Beach on Saturday.

While the fire was quickly contained and no one was hurt, the Italian restaurant will be closed for a few weeks for repairs, said owner Peter Kourkoulis.

A spokesman said the business sustained smoke, water and fire damage. He said the fire broke out around midmorning when there were no customers, only staff, on site.

Kourkoulis said the down period will be used as an opportunity to improve the restaurant from every angle, including adding party space that can be rented for private events.

New owners plan updates to Longboard

The Longboard Restaurant and Pub, at 217 Main St. in downtown Huntington Beach, is under new ownership.

The owners, Dave Lautner, Bruce Milliken, and Michael Goldberg, are planning to update the interior and outdoor space as well as the menu somewhat, based on customer feedback. Their goal is to keep the charm of The Longboard, while also appealing to millennials, they said in a news release.

“We have customers that have been coming here for 20 years,” Lautner said in the release. “We value these patrons and are trying to make improvements that won’t change the feeling of Huntington Beach Surf City charm that you feel when you walk through the door.”

Lautner and Milliken are original owners of The Longboard; it opened 25 years ago.

“We wanted to open a restaurant and pub where diners could enjoy New England food favorites and cheer on the Patriots,” said Milliken. “There are other Patriots restaurants in the area, but none with the Boston foods that we offer.”
