H.B. police: Think twice about setting off those M-80s and bottle rockets

Share

Huntington Beach police are warning residents that certain types of fireworks are prohibited citywide and may result in fines if they are set off.

Illegal fireworks such as firecrackers, M-80s, bottle rockets, sky rockets, mortars, Roman candles and homemade fireworks are not allowed, according to a Facebook post from the Huntington Beach Police Department.

“These booms can cause extreme panic with many people and pets,” police said. “We have already received tips regarding locations that continuously discharge illegal fireworks.”

Police said a first offense can result in a $500 fine, while second and subsequent offenses can result in $1,000 fines each.

Those who hear or see these types of fireworks are encouraged to contact authorities with the addresses of the offenders, not an area of intersection, in order to contact those responsible.

Information can be provided anonymously to police by calling (714) 375-5144 or emailing caprop@hbpd.org.
