Around Town: 2 local high school students on OCTA Teen Council

Ian Macdonald and Sarah Babcock, both of Huntington Beach, are among 18 high school students selected to the Orange County Transportation Authority’s 2015-16 Teen Council.

Council members participate in transportation-related discussions and projects with their peers and OCTA staff members to help provide insight into public transportation issues.

Teen Council members serve for one year. The group meets once a month during the school year.

Coffee shop opens in Huntington Beach

Milk and Honey, a Costa Mesa coffee shop that also serves smoothies, frozen yogurt, shaved ice, acai bowls, sandwiches and pizza bagels, has opened a new location at 438 Main St. in Huntington Beach.

Local man to be ordained as deacon

Stephen Byars of St Mary’s by the Sea Catholic Church in Huntington Beach will be among 15 new deacons ordained Saturday by the Most Rev. Kevin Vann, bishop of the Diocese of Orange, during a Mass at St. Columban Church in Garden Grove.

A deacon is an ordained minister who may be married and maintain an existing job. He or she may baptize, officiate at marriages and funerals, assist and preach in the liturgy and preside at various community ceremonies.
