A Huntington Beach man was arrested late Tuesday after an hours-long standoff with police.

Officers responded to a call about a possible kidnapping at about 1:40 p.m. A man told authorities that his fiancée had not come home Monday night and that she had texted him that she was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend Travis Sutton, Officer Jennifer Marlatt said.

Sutton, 26, has a history of domestic violence, police said.

Officers arrived at Sutton’s home in the 17000 block of Wild Rose Lane and saw the woman’s vehicle parked nearby. No one answered the door and the woman was not answering phone calls, Marlatt said.

Huntington Beach’s SWAT and crisis negotiation teams were called to the scene and located the woman inside the house. After several hours, she left the house unharmed and talked with police, Marlatt said.

At about 10:30 p.m., the SWAT team entered the home and found Sutton, who surrendered immediately, police said. He was arrested on outstanding warrants including possession of narcotics and providing false identification to a police officer, Marlatt said.

“The reported kidnapping appears to be unfounded, but the incident is still being investigated,” police said in a Facebook post.
