Oak View community celebration honors Our Lady of Guadalupe
Residents of the Oak View neighborhood in Huntington Beach gathered Friday night to celebrate the Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Catholics, usually of Mexican descent, annually celebrate what they believe was the appearance of the Virgin Mary to Juan Diego in Mexico in December 1531.
Catholics in Oak View pay tribute to Mary, also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe, at various altars and gatherings. During Friday’s celebration, a large statue of her was carried throughout the neighborhood, stopping at the altars.
