U.S. water polo teams return to OC

The USA Water Polo Men’s and Women’s Senior National Teams will end the year with matches against international competition starting next week.

The USA Women’s National Team, which includes Alys Williams of Huntington Beach (Edison High/UCLA), will take on the Netherlands at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mira Costa High in Manhattan Beach. Team USA defeated the Netherlands in the World Championship final .

The Women’s National Team also will be joined by the Netherlands, Italy and Spain for the Holiday Cup which runs Dec. 15-20 at Corona del Mar High.

The USA Men’s National Team, which includes Bret Bonanni of Huntington Beach (Mater Dei High/Stanford), will play Croatia in a two-game series. The teams will meet at 8 p.m. Dec. 20 at Corona del Mar High, and at 3 p.m. Dec. 20 at USC.

Wednesday: Spain vs. Italy, 6 p.m.: USA vs. Netherlands, 7:30 p.m.

Dec. 17: Italy vs. Netherlands, 5 p.m.; USA vs. Spain, 6:30 p.m.; USA Men vs. Croatia, 8 p.m.

Dec. 18 (free admission): Spain vs. Netherlands, 3 p.m.; USA vs. Italy, 7:30 p.m.

Dec. 19: Spain vs. Italy, noon; USA vs. Netherlands, 1:30 p.m.

Dec. 20: Netherlands vs. Italy, 9 a.m.; USA vs. Spain, 10:30 a.m.
