HB Green Chargers earn shutout again

The Huntington Beach Green Chargers came into their game Saturday against the San Clemente Black Tritons looking for their fourth consecutive victory and earned it by winning by shutout for the fourth straight week.

Rolling up 332 yards offense — 188 on the ground, Huntington scored a 31-0 victory in Pop Warner Football Pee Wee Division action at Edison High.

Quarterback Elijah Brown completed nine of 15 passes with three touchdowns. His first scoring pass covered 55 yards to Skylar Thompson, and he hit Ethan Ton on a point-after pass, to put the Green Chargers up early, 7-0.

Running back Tristan Copeland, who gained 110 yards on the day on only eight carries, scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 40-yard run to make the score 13-0 early in the second quarter. On Huntington’s next possession, Brown threw a beautiful, high-arching pass into the right corner of the end zone to Ryan Rivituso. The 21-yard scoring play made it 19-0 midway through the quarter.

Just before halftime, Brown tossed his third TD pass, this time, to Nico Brown from 14 yards out for a 25-0 lead at the break.

Copeland capped off the scoring by weaving through defenders for a 15-yard touchdown run in the second half.

For the season, Brown has thrown for close to 1,400 yards with 19 touchdowns and five interceptions.

The offensive line of William Burke, Michael Kelly, Liam Kennedy, Johnny Figueroa and Joseph Gentilella, again played a superb game.

The Green Chargers’ hard-hitting defense was led by hard-hitting nose guard/middle linebacker Shane Dzwilewski, linebackers Nico Brown and Philip Overturf, Tyler Moses (fumble recovery), Vincent Maza, Lukas Jones, Justin Robilard, Eric Hernandez, Hudson Letterman (fumble recovery), Elijah Brown, Ton (fumble recovery), Rivituso and Copeland.

Huntington, which has outscored the opposition, 100-0 in its last four games, is 6-3 overall. The Green Chargers play their final game of the season at 11 a.m. Saturday when they travel to face the La Mirada Matadores at La Mirada High.
