The Angels placed veteran catcher Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, the third time this season the 33-year-old has been sidelined because of a knee ailment. This time, it is an inflamed right knee, related to the torn meniscus he suffered in May.

He was in the Angels’ lineup on Tuesday against Seattle but could not warm up comfortably, he said. He was then scratched before the first pitch.

“I just felt angry,” Soto said. “I can’t help the team like that. My whole career I’ve played with pain, but this is a little different, and difficult. You do the stuff you think is gonna keep you healthy, keep you in the lineup.”

Soto said his knee swelled after the warm-up, enough that he had it drained Tuesday.

“He’s getting the same symptoms in his right knee as pre-surgery,” Angels Manager Mike Scioscia said. “Hopefully it’s just a little setback. We’re gonna shut him down for a little bit and see if we can’t get this totally behind him.”

The Angels signed Soto to a one-year, $2.8-million contract in the off-season. He has hit well when healthy — a .269 average, with an .809 OPS — and he would’ve been a candidate to be traded in the waiver period before August’s end. But the knee injuries have sapped his value. He has played only 26 games.

The Angels recalled Carlos Perez from triple-A Salt Lake to take his roster spot, and Perez started Wednesday. He will again split time with rookie Jett Bandy.

Bedrosian better

Right-hander Cam Bedrosian will play light catch Thursday, his first time throwing in 15 days. He went on the disabled list because of right middle finger tendinitis that bothered him since late last month. He tried to pitch through the pain at first and then blew his second save chance.

“It just got progressively worse and worse,” he said Wednesday. “I was having shoulder fatigue.”

Bedrosian had not been on the disabled list since recovering from May 2011 Tommy John surgery.

Short hops

The Angels promoted outfielder Jahmai Jones from rookie-level Orem to Class-A Burlington. Jones, 19, is considered by many the prospect in the organization with the most potential. The 2015 second-round selection has hit .321 with a .404 on-base percentage this season. …Trade deadline acquisition Alex Meyer made his second appearance for rookie-level Arizona on Wednesday. The 26-year-old right-hander has faced 12 hitters in the Angels’ organization and struck out six of them.
