KEY MOMENT: The Angels scored four runs in the first inning off Dodgers starter Zack Greinke. Kole Calhoun was doubled in by Mike Trout, who, in turn, was doubled in by Albert Pujols. Pujols was later thrown out at the plate by Adrian Gonzalez. Erick Aybar, who reached base on the fielder’s choice, scored when Hanley Ramirez fielded a grounder by Howie Kendrick and threw away the ball. Kendrick scored on a single by David Freese.

AT THE PLATE: Josh Hamilton extended the Angels’ lead to 5-0 with a sixth-inning home run. The home run was Hamilton’s eighth of the season. The Dodgers were limited to two hits over the first six innings.

ON THE MOUND: Angels starter Garrett Richards pitched a shutout, limiting the Dodgers to five hits and two walks. Greinke composed himself after Freese’s run-scoring single in the first inning, retiring 13 of the next 14 batters he faced. The only batter to reach base in that period was Freese, who benefited from Ramirez’s second throwing error of the night. Greinke was charged with five runs over seven innings.

EXTRA BASES: Mike Scioscia won his 1,300th game as the Angels’ manager. … Carl Crawford snapped a 0-for-15 skid with a fourth-inning single. … Crawford started in left field for the Dodgers in place of Andre Ethier, who started for the first time in 12 days Sunday. … A.J. Ellis returned to the lineup after taking two days off to rest a bruised knee.
