Rory Sabbatini wins sixth PGA Tour title

Rory Sabbatini began the day with a big lead, turned back a challenge on the back nine and shot an even-par 70 Sunday for a one-stroke victory in the Honda Classic at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Sabbatini made a two-foot par putt on No. 18 to finish at nine-under 271. He earned his first PGA Tour title since the 2009 Byron Nelson Championship and sixth overall.

Y.E. Yang birdied the final hole for a closing 66 to finish eight under. Jerry Kelly, who played with Sabbatini and Yang in the final threesome, shot a 67 and took third at seven under.

Lee Westwood, who fell to No. 2 in the rankings behind Martin Kaymer on Feb. 28, shot 70 and tied for 29th. He needed to finish in the top three to regain the top ranking.

Roddick leads U.S. past Chile

Andy Roddick showed why he’s the go-to guy to close out a Davis Cup series, leading the United States to a 3-1 win over Chile to set up a meeting with the Rafael Nadal-led Spaniards in the quarterfinals.

Roddick defeated Paul Capdeville, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3, 6-3, at Santiago, Chile. The Americans will play at home from July 8-10 against Spain, 4-1 winners over Belgium.

The International Tennis Federation confirmed that Ivo Karlovic of Croatia broke the world record for the fastest serve.

He struck a 156-mph serve in the fourth set of a doubles match against Germany in the Davis Cup on Saturday, breaking Roddick’s previous record of 155 mph.

Vonn wins super-G, gets closer to Riesch

Lindsey Vonn clinched her third discipline title in three days with a super-G victory to wrap up a memorable weekend of racing at Tarvisio, Italy.

Vonn took the super-combined and downhill titles the previous two days and has moved to within 96 points of German rival and good friend Maria Riesch in the overall standings with six races remaining this season.

Vonn clocked 1 minute 21.75 seconds down the sun-drenched Prampero course. Fellow American Julia Mancuso was second, 0.23 behind, and Riesch was third, 0.50 back.

Mario Matt of Austria won his second straight World Cup slalom race and Nolan Kasper of the U.S. had the fastest second run to finish in a tie for second, a career-best showing, at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

Middle Tennessee returned to the court for the first time since the stabbing death of player Tina Stewart, losing, 77-62, to Arkansas State in the Sun Belt Conference tournament quarterfinals at Hot Springs, Ark.

Stewart, 21, of Memphis, Tenn., was stabbed to death Wednesday night and her 18-year-old roommate, Shanterrica Madden, has been charged with first-degree murder.

Top-seeded Cal Poly Pomona will be host of the West Regional of the Division II women’s basketball tournament Friday, Saturday and Monday. Cal Poly Pomona will play eighth-seeded Cal State San Bernardino in the last of four games Friday, at 7:30 p.m.

IBF and WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBA titleholder David Haye have finally agreed to fight, setting up an eagerly awaited heavyweight title bout for this summer.

After months of failed negotiations, both boxers confirmed the fight should take place on June 25 or July 2 at a venue in Germany that is yet to be confirmed.
