Mariners 9, Dodgers 5

AT THE PLATE: Andre Ethier reached base three times with a single, a triple and a hit by pitch. He and Adrian Gonzalez also picked up their first runs batted in of the spring. Hanley Ramirez had a single and walk from the leadoff spot, scoring twice. The Dodgers, who are hitting .309 as a team, have reached double digits in hits in their last five games.

ON THE MOUND: Chris Capuano and Chad Billingsley, who are both battling for a spot in the rotation, stumbled a bit, combining to give up six runs (five earned) and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. Billingsley, whose spring earned-run average soared to 10.38, allowed six of the 13 batters he faced to reach base while Capuano, who retired the side in order in the first and second, gave up three runs on four hits in the third although he was hurt by an error. His spring ERA is 10.80.

EXTRA BASES: Matt Kemp will make his second appearance of the spring Sunday as the Dodgers’ designated hitter. He’s expected to debut in the outfield early this week. Third baseman Luis Cruz made his second error of the spring Saturday, then later mishandled a potential double-play ball. The sloppy Dodgers had two other errors and committed a wild pitch, leading to three unearned runs.
