Report: Notre Dame quarterback Gunner Kiel to transfer
Notre Dame quarterback Gunner Kiel will transfer from the school, according to multiple Internet reports.
Kiel redshirted last season while redshirt freshman Everett Golson led the team to the BCS title game. Kiel probably would have been third on the quarterback depth chart next season, behind Golson and senior Tommy Rees.
In the week leading up to the BCS title game, Kiel had mentioned staying and trying to win the starting job.
“I’m gonna try, but he’s a great quarterback,” Kiel said. “He’s going to lead this team and he’s going to keep getting better, so I just need to keep getting better and learn from him, and also learn from Coach [Brian] Kelly and just try to keep getting better each year.
“Anything could happen. Golson could go to the NFL, you never know. He could also get hurt, other people could get hurt, There’s so many doors that could be opened that I just have to be patient, just wait my turn, wait to get better.”
