Watch Snoop Lion, L.A. City Council celebrate ‘Dwight Howard Day’
Last Wednesday, City Council celebrated “Dwight Howard Day,” honoring the Lakers center with a ceremony at City Hall.
Orchestrated by council members Bernard C. Parks and Jan Perry, it was actually a surprise guest who presented Howard with the official certificate and resolution.
Described as an “intern” by Parks, Snoop Lion (the artist formerly known as Snoop Dogg), brought out the 6-foot, 10-inch-tall framed resolution.
“We do hereby declare November 14, 2012 as Dwight Howard Day in the city of Los Angeles,” read Snoop Lion from a statement.
Howard was humbled by the honor.
“This is a new city [for me]. For you guys to open up the way you have, I feel the support and love every time I step on the floor,” said Howard to the assembled crowd. “Our team is working extremely hard so we can bring another championship to L.A.”
Howard came to the Lakers via an off-season trade but is in the final year of his contract. The team hopes to give him a long-term deal in July.
“Our biggest plan is to makes sure that we bring the city together. One way we can do that is by winning games and also getting out in the community,” Howard said. “Hopefully I’ll be doing it here for a long time.”
