Playoff-bound Mavericks topple the Lakers, 120-106

The Lakers lost their 59th game of the season Sunday night, falling to the playoff-bound Dallas Mavericks, 120-106.

Tyson Chandler finished with 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting and nine rebounds to lead seven Mavericks in double figures. The others were Richard Jefferson (17), Dirk Nowitzki (16), Raymond Felton (15), Charlie Villanueva (14), Rajon Rondo (11) and Al-Farouq Aminu (10).

Dallas shot 54.2% from the field and 47.6% from three-point range (10 of 21).

The Lakers shot 43.6% and 37.5% (9 of 24), respectively, but kept relatively close throughout the game with help at the free-throw line: 29 of 36 (80.6%). The Mavericks made 20 of 26 free throws (76.9%).

Jordan Clarkson was the game’s leading scorer with 26 points and had six assists. Jabari Brown added 18 points with Ed Davis scoring 11 off the bench. Tarik Black, Ryan Kelly and Dwight Buycks each chipped in 10.

Wesley Johnson suffered a sprained ankle, sitting out the second half after scoring 16 points -- hitting four of five three-point attempts.

Black collected a career-high 19 rebounds. Aminu led the Mavericks with 10 boards.

Rondo dished a game-high 11 assists. Kelly matched Clarkson with six for the Lakers.

With the loss, the Lakers fall to 21-59. They’ll next visit the Sacramento Kings (27-53) on Monday. The Mavericks (49-31) will travel to Utah to play the Jazz (37-43), also on Monday.

Mavericks 89, Lakers 82 (end of third quarter)

The Lakers once again fell behind by double digits (14 points), but climbed back before the end of the quarter. Robert Sacre’s free throw with 28.3 seconds left made it a five-point game.

J.J. Barea converted a layup in the final seconds, giving the Mavericks a seven-point advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Wesley Johnson suffered a sprained ankle, sitting out the second half. Ed Davis moved into the starting lineup at power forward, with Ryan Kelly sliding over to the three.

Jabari Brown is the game’s leading scorer with 17 points. Johnson scored 16 in the first half. Jordan Clarksonhas 15 points with six assists.

Tyson Chandler is pacing the Mavericks with 16 points and nine rebounds. Rajon Rondo has 11 points with eight assists.

Dallas shot 51.5% from the field, while the Lakers hit 43.8% as a team.

Mavericks 62, Lakers 57 (halftime)

The Lakers overcame a 12-point deficit to the Mavericks to close to within five at halftime.

Wesley Johnson is the game’s leading scorer with 16 points, making four of five three-point shots. Jordan Clarkson and Jabari Brown have scored eight apiece.

The Lakers are shoting 45.5% from the field and 31.2% from behind the arc (5 of 16).

Dallas is shooting 50% and 33.3% (4 of 12), respectively. Rajon Rondo leads his team with 11 points while Richard Jefferson has 10.

Both teams turned the ball over five times in the half.

Mavericks 33, Lakers 27 (end of first quarter)

The Mavericks finished the first quarter with a six-point lead over the Lakers by shooting 63.6% from the field.

Tyson Chandler, who made all three of his shots, leads Dallas with eight points while Rajon Rondo scored six before having to sit with two personal fouls.

The Lakers, who are shooting 42.9%, have been led by Wesley Johnson’s eight points. Ed Davis added five off the bench.

The Lakers (21-58) host the Dallas Mavericks (48-31) on Sunday at Staples Center.

Jeremy Lin (knee) is likely out with a knee injury. Wayne Ellington (shoulder), Nick Young (knee), Ronnie Price (elbow), Kobe Bryant (shoulder) and Julius Randle (knee) are all done for the season.

Chandler Parsons (knee) is questionable for the Mavericks.
