Harris, Kelly put up big numbers in D-Fenders’ opening-night loss

Ryan Kelly and Elias Harris, on assignment in the D-League, put up big numbers Saturday in the D-Fenders’ season-opening 124-114 loss to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Kelly scored 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting with nine rebounds in almost 37 minutes. Harris contributed 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting in 28 1/2 minutes.

The D-Fenders’ leading scorer was Malcolm Thomas, who impressed with 36 points, 18 rebounds and four steals.

The Vipers had four scorers with at least 22 points: Chris Johnson (28), Robert Covington (24), James Johnson (24) and Troy Daniels (22).

The D-Fenders will visit the Santa Cruz Warriors on Nov. 30.

Kelly and Harris are likely to rejoin the Lakers for their Sunday night battle against the Sacramento Kings. Kelly has made two appearances for the Lakers this season, making two of his three shots. Harris has yet to score in 11 minutes of play.
